~ Chapter 45 ~

A few days later....

The last traces of the sun vanished as evening began in Florida. The air was fraught with humidity. The threat of Hurricane Floyd had half of the residents on alert while the other half headed out of town. In Kevin's house, the music was booming from a stereo system. Kevin lay sprawled on the sofa, smoking a joint while a wily, young 18 year old climbed onto his lap. "Kevy poo," she purred, her bleached blonde hair cascading down over her shoulders. "Is it my turn now?"

Kevin grinned lazily at this vixen that was straddling his most sensitive parts. "Yea baby. It's your turn. Wanna ride the train?"

She nodded eagerly. Kevin extinguished the joint and pulled her up and sat her down hard on his erect member. "Pretend this is that super train they got in France, baby, and ride me hard and fast!"

The blonde giggled like it was the funniest thing she'd ever heard. She started pumping up and down as the two other girls in the room wandered over. Kevin watched them as they watched the girl riding him. "You girls jealous? Wanna taste of the action?"

Their heads bobbed up and down. Kevin beckoned the tall brunette over and told her exactly where he wanted her while the remaining girl just sat back and watched. His body screamed in ecstasy. He had one girl pleasing him while he pleased the other. Life was great. He knew that in 30 minutes his high would begin too fade and he would have to go snort another line. This feeling could not end. There was no other feeling like it. He felt the brunette come in his mouth at the same as he exploded inside blondie. He hollered out something that sounded like "I am King of the World" then laughed. He oughta thank Nick now. Life was good.

Loreto struggled with some groceries bags as the wind picked up. She managed to make it inside her condo and leaned against the door, afraid it would blow open at any minute. "Time to haul my ass back to Toronto," she said outloud.

The phone rang as she comtemplated why she was talking outloud to an empty room. "Yea?" Her usual hello.

"Lo, it's Shae," came the answer on the other end.

"SHAE!!!!" Loreto shrieked. "Where in God's name are you?"

"North Carolina."

"North Carolina? Everyone's freaking out here. Brian told me that Nick left a message on his cell about you guys leaving town. Shae, what's going on?"

"Lo, first of all you CANNOT tell anyone where we are. Nick would have a fit. Second, you know what's going on. You were there."

"I know hun. Kevin's been moping around. He feels terrible, Shae."

"Tough. He should have thought about the consequences of his actions before going through with his deception," Shae said wisely, watching Nick outside the window. She smiled as she saw him fall to the ground, Mikey and Willie jumping on top of him.

"Shae, I know what Kevin did was wrong. But can you try and convince your blond friend to come back here so he and Kevin can at least try and work things out? They can't throw away over six years of friendship because Kevin made some stupid mistakes."

"Stupid mistakes that nearly cost Nick his life!" Shae retorted. "Look, Nick is happy here. He's smiling again which I was beginning to think would never happen. I don't want him hurt anymore."

"Does he know how much you love him?" Loreto asked, hearing the love for Nick so evident her friend's voice.

Shae grew quiet. "No. We say "I love you" but he thinks it's all meant as friends. I don't have the guts to admit anything farther. And I'm afraid, too. I don't want to wreck what we have."

A loud crash resounded in Shae's ear and Loreto yelped. "What the hell is going on over there?" Shae asked.

"Thunderstorm. You heard about Floyd?"

"Yea. I hope he doesn't hit Florida. Be careful Loreto."

"I will. I better check on Kevin. I haven't seen him in three days."

"Why not?"

"I decided to leave him alone for a few days after he gave me an attitude on Monday night. He did tell me something, Shae. He told me that he loves me."

"Oh....that's...great, Lo."

"Gee, don't sound so happy for me."

"Under the circumstances..."

"Shae, there's something I need to tell you."

Her friend's voice held an urgent tone. "What is it?"

"Shae, I just....." the line went dead and the lights went out. The loud crash of thunder sent Loreto scurrying into the bedroom. In North Carolina, Shae put the phone down and waited a few minutes before she redialed her friend's number, but all she got was a busy signal. The storm must've knocked the phone lines down. She wondered what Loreto was about to tell her.

Loreto found her cell after searching for it 10 minutes in the darkness. She dialed Kevin's number with trembling fingers. She hated storms and didn't want t be alone.

"HEY-LOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Kevin's cheery voice answered.

Loreto was so surprised at the sound of his voice, that she didn't answer. "I said HELLLLLOO? Anyone there?"

"Kev?"

"Lolo? Is that you baby?"

"Yea." She felt uneasy. "Are you ok?"

"Am I ok? AM I OK????" He looked at the three naked women on the sofa and laughed. "Baby, I'm better than ok! I'm just GRRRRRREAT! Wanna come on down? I'm having a party here."

"Party? Who's there?"

"Hmm...who's here? Well, there's..." he stopped and looked at them, realizing he didn't know their names. This elicited laughter from the three nubile females who were as stoned as he was.

"Kevin?" He didn't miss the sharpness in Loreto's voice.

"Babe....I don't know their names. Call them blondie, brunette, and big tits. How's that?"

Loreto went cold. "Wha..what are you talking about?"

"Are you dumb or just stupid?" he cackled. "I got women here, baby. Three of 'em. They satisfied me plenty tonight."

Loreto didn't realize she was crying until she saw her tears hit the counter. "You've been f**king around?" She could barely get the words out. "HOW COULD YOU?"

"Easy babe. You haven't called me or bothered with me in three days. A man has needs. So I hired them to take care of my needs. Need further explanations?"

"H..hired? You hired some hookers?"

"I did. Best $3000 I ever spent in one night."

"YOU SICKEN ME!" Loreto screamed. She broke the connection and hurled the phone across the kitchen. It shattered against the fridge. Her knees buckled under her as she sagged to the floor. "How could you do this to me?" she cried out to the empty room. She lay her head on the floor. The coolnes of the tiles felt good.

A thought crossed her mind. Kevin didn't sound like himself. He sounded like....OH NO!! She sat up, wiping the tears from her cheeks. Kevin sounded exactly the same as he had when he was stoned when they were in Europe.

She searched around in the dark for her car keys and quickly left the house.

"....Hurricane Floyd hasn't struck Florida yet, but there is a major electrical storm wreaking havoc on parts of Orlando and Kissimmee tonight. Power has been knocked out in most of Orlando as well as the surrounding areas. All residents are warned to remain indoors until further notice..." Shae shut off the radio and looked at Nick. "I hope Loreto's ok. And AJ, Howie, and Brian," she added, purposely omitting Kevin's name.

"Me, too," he said, looking out the window at the threatening sky.

Loreto's car zigzagged all over the road as the rain pounded down on her. She could barely make out anything in front of her. The thunder crashed above. She cringed and tried to keep her hands steady on the steering wheel. 'What the hell I am doing?' she asked herself.

She didn't have time to answer as the loudest crash of thunder came from above at the same time as a huge bolt of lightening hit down in front of her. She saw the tree for a split second before it came down, sending her car hurtling straight for it. She screamed and let go of the steering wheel.

She felt a sharp pain in her stomach. Then everything went black.
